Daybooks, 1821-1822, 1826-1829.

Records daily transactions at Taylor's store from 1821 to 1822 and from 1826 to 1829. Entries do not provide detailed product descriptions, most being one or two words. Such items as whiskey, brandy, cakes, sugar, coffee, flax seed, molasses, nails, pitchers, plates, rabbit skins, lace, fabrics, bobbin, paper, linseed oil, indigo, and other household items are represented. The second volume was later used by Bayard as a scrapbook. He began the scrapbook when he was ten and saved clippings about other countries and poets whose work he admired.

Joseph Taylor operated a general store on the Southeast Corner of State and Union Streets in Kennett Square, Pa. He was a descendent of a Quaker family that first settled in Kennett ca. 1730.
